New school year, new conversation!

Well, it’s officially that time of the year again — it’s back to school time. You have been running back and forth to the store to pick up all the new supplies that your kids need for the 2014 – 2015 school year – new pencils, notepads, paper, backpacks, and so on. And for those parents that are sending their kids back to college, they’ve been busy replenishing all the necessary dorm supplies and packing them up boxes for the trip back to campus.

It’s an exciting and busy time of year and you’re probably nearly done with that back to school checklist. But have you had THE conversation with your kids yet? You know, the conversation about alcohol? Whether your kid is in elementary, middle school, high school, or in college, you should talk to them about the dangers of underage drinking, drunk driving and binge drinking. It’s also important to stay involved in their lives, know their friends and let them know they can come to you for advice no matter what age they are.

Throughout the month of August and September, the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will have resources parents can use with their kids (of any age) to help them talk to their kids about alcohol responsibility. One such resource is this Back to School infographic. It includes tips on how to talk to your kids, and ways for you to encourage other parents to talk to their kids.

So, as you continue to get your kids ready for the next school year, arm yourself with some important information about alcohol responsibility and have the conversation with them before they head back to class.

Keep an eye on this blog and all of our social media channels for more back to school resources throughout August and September!
