Annual Summer Shore Initiative in New Jersey Kicks Off Again with Cops in Shops

We are proud of our long standing relationship with the New Jersey Department of Public Safety, which includes the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control and the Division of Highway Traffic Safety for the annual Summer Shore Initiative to curb underage drinking. The message is clear – If you’re too young to buy, don’t even try. On the Jersey Shore this summer, 28 police departments will be watching for illegal underage sales. New Jersey’s efforts to combat underage drinking and the Summer Shore Initiative are an excellent example of leadership and teamwork. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility applauds the incredible enforcement efforts of these fine police departments to save young lives this summer and all year long.

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility created the Cops in Shops program as a partnership between law enforcement and retailers. The goal of Cops in Shops is to deter illegal underage purchases of alcohol and to prevent adults from buying alcohol for minors, by using undercover officers posing as store employees. This campaign has been successfully employed in 49 states.
