IKnowEverything hosts first event with high schoolers!

The IKnowEverything initiative is a teen driver safety program that The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility launched nationwide in 2013 with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), International Association of Chiefs of Police Foundation, the National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) and the National Sheriffs’ Association. In 2014, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility will take IKnowEverything to schools across the country through an interactive program. The purpose of the game is to gather data on whether teens are prepared to make the decisions needed to be a safe driver.

IKnowEverything kicked off to a great start with two events this week! We began the week at Park View High School in Sterling, VA. It was a great day spent talking to teens about the dangers of drunk driving and distracted driving. The students even learned a little bit from Shaq when he popped up in a video during the program. The data we collected will be invaluable for our national study and will help teachers better educate students on driver safety!

The next day, IKnowEverything traveled to Shelby High School in Shelby, OH. The auditorium was packed with 600 high school students, and there were a few special guests in attendance including Shelby Mayor Marilyn John and Shelby Chief of Police Charles E. Roub, Jr. The IKnowEverything challenge started to heat up when the students participated in a guys v. girls lightning round! The girls at Shelby High School took the reins on the lightning round, but all of the students left as winners with knowledge of safe driving practices. At the end of the program, Mayor Marilyn John and Chief of Police Charles E. Roub, Jr. spoke about the dangers of drunk driving and distracted driving. The room was silent when Mayor Marilyn John spoke about a personal story that revealed the serious consequences of drunk driving and unsafe driving. The students walked away with feeling more confident than ever that safe driving is most important on the road.

The program ended with a raffle of FCCLA backpacks and IKnowEverything t-shirts. The raffle winners were thrilled and all of the students were excited to have participated in the IKnowEverything challenge! WMFD news covered the event allowing all of Shelby, OH to learn about the IKnowEverything program.
