Mayor Vincent Gray touts Washington Regional Alcohol Program's 'SoberRide' service

On Friday, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility attended The Washington Regional Alcohol Program’s luncheon at Hill Country Barbecue in downtown Washington, D.C. We were treated to Texas BBQ and a conversation with DC’s Mayor Vincent Gray.

The Mayor detailed the many ways that DC is growing and cautioned that growth must be accompanied by responsible behavior, particularly as it relates to drunk driving. The District of Columbia passed stricter drunk driving laws last year including increased fines and increased jail time for drivers with very high blood alcohol concentration levels and for people convicted of DWI with a child in the car.

At the luncheon, the Mayor thanked the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) for conducting its SoberRide program over the upcoming 4th of July holiday. WRAP will offer free cab rides home over the 4th of July holiday, and we urge you to take advantage of this fabulous program.

The Washington, D.C. metro area has an incredible metro and bus system. It also has great bicycle lanes and sidewalks. There is absolutely no reason to drive impaired. So go enjoy the best fireworks display in the nation and then get home safely. For a free cab from 10 pm on July 4 until 5 am on July 5, call 1-800-200-taxi http://www.wrap.org/soberride/
