Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility launches new, free educational gaming app, "Grab the Goodies"
Washington, DC -- Today the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org) released a new gaming app, “Grab the Goodies,” at a time when parents are looking for new ways to keep their kids learning and entertained at the same time. The launch builds on the recent trend highlighted by the CDC study which reports that fewer high school kids have had their first alcoholic beverage before age 13.
“Grab the Goodies” is an interactive educational application with distinct learning outcomes, and is one of the new ways parents (and teachers) can use technology to deliver important learning experiences to their kids. This educational app, developed by Responsibility.org and the George Mason University’s Simulation & Game Institute, enables kids (ages 6-9) to learn about the negative consequences of underage drinking and empowers them to make healthy lifestyle decisions.
“Using games and apps for educational purposes is growing, not just among kids but with adults, too” said Dr. David Anderson, Professor of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA. “Responsibility.org’s new app is a very helpful resource for parents and kids to engage actively together to fight underage drinking.”
“We know alcohol consumption by underage youth has declined for more than a decade, but there is still work to be done,” said Ralph Blackman, President and CEO of the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility. “For nearly 25 years, we’ve produced effective and fun ways to engage parents and their children and enable them to start the conversation about the dangers of underage drinking”. This app is yet another tool for parents to use to encourage their kids to make responsible and healthy decisions.
“Grab the Goodies” is part of the Ask, Listen, Learn program, which provides kids, their parents and their teachers with information and tools to talk about underage drinking in an approachable way.
The app releases on August 12th and is available on both the Apple and Google Play app stores.
