The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility and FCCLA announce partnership to kickoff National Teen Driver Safety Week

To expand the reach of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility’s IKnowEverything teen driver safety program, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility today announced a formal partnership with Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

Developed to prepare teens to be safe when they get behind the wheel, IKnowEverything is an integrated effort that highlights the issues of drunk driving and distracted driving and reiterates to parents that they have the most influence on their teen’s driving behaviors.

“While parents play a critical role in shaping their teen’s driving habits, we know it’s also important for teens to hear safe driving messages from their peers,“ said Ralph Blackman, president and CEO of The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility, an independent, national not-for-profit funded by distillers dedicated to fighting drunk driving and underage drinking. “We’re thrilled to partner with FCCLA, and their 200,000 members in more than 5,500 in-school chapters across the country, the organization is a great way to spark peer-to-peer discussions around the IKnowEverything program’s message of safe driving.”

Through its own national peer education program — Families Acting for Community Traffic Safety (FACTS) — FCCLA is committed to helping save lives through projects emphasizing sober driving, seatbelt use, safe driving habits, empowering teens to speak up for themselves on driving safety issues and bridging the gap between youth and adults to understand the importance of driver education and safety.

“Because family is our central focus and we believe that safe driving habits are a family affair, with teens first learning basic safety as children, we are delighted to partner with the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility on the IKnowEverything teen driver safety program,” said Sandy Spavone, executive director of FCCLA. “We look forward to lending our members’ voices as advocates for safe teen driving to increase the reach of this important campaign to improve the outcomes for all teen drivers.”

With today’s announcement, FCCLA became the fourth organization to partner with The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility to help promote the IKnowEverything program. Earlier this year, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility teamed up with The International Association of Chiefs of Police Foundation (IACP), the National Sheriffs’ Association and The National Organizations for Youth Safety (NOYS) to distribute program materials to law enforcement officials, juvenile judges, educators, and traffic safety professionals across the nation to increase teen driving safety.
