New Campaign Launches to End Impaired Driving: “Drive Like You Give a #&%!”

Impaired driving is dumb driving. I don’t want to share the road with impaired drivers and neither do you.

As the holiday season approaches, I’m proud to launch a new campaign designed to end impaired driving, “Drive Like You Give a #&%!” The campaign stars yours truly as Captain of the “Responsible Driving Enforcement Agency” and my rookie, Officer Julia Vasquez. Together we book four impaired driving offenders who were caught driving drunk, distracted, drugged, and drowsy. Some of our offenders’ behaviors behind the wheel may surprise you.

Many of you know about my commitment towards the dedicated men and women who serve in law enforcement. It is a serious business. I’m a reserve police officer myself. I know first-hand that driving impaired takes many forms and risky behaviors often travel together. None of the dangerous driving behaviors depicted in the new campaign are funny. Yet, humor resonates with young people and that’s who we’re trying to reach here. I hope those of you who are closer to my age aren’t offended by a few beeps here and there.

In 2016, males between the ages of 21 and 29 accounted for 21 percent of all traffic fatalities involving males. Male drunk drivers were 1.5 times more likely than female drunk drivers to be involved in a fatal crash. Young men in their twenties also accounted for 21 percent of all drunk driving fatalities in 2016. These statistics show that young males are responsible for a disproportionate share of impaired driving-related crashes, leading us to target this demographic specifically in the no-nonsense, attention-grabbing campaign.

Please share this campaign with the young adults in your life, and have a safe and joyous Holiday Season.

Stay safe and be smart.
