NOYS encourages teens to Act Out Loud using IKnowEverything

The leading cause of death for teens in the United States is traffic crashes.  According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, mile for mile, teenagers are involved in three times as many fatal crashes as all other drivers. Now is the time to do more, not less, to tackle this public health epidemic that results in more than 3,500 teen lives lost each year. Fortunately, many teen motor vehicle crashes are preventable, and proven strategies can improve the safety of young drivers on the road.  National Organizations for Youth Safety® (NOYS) is proud to partner with its newest coalition member, The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility on the IKnowEverything Campaign to fight back against this epidemic by engaging young people in the solution.

Young people around the country can use IKnowEverything resources while planning and carrying out their Act Out Loud rallies! Act Out Loud® is a teen-led contest that encourages youth across the country to take action to help keep what they value most –friends, freedom and fun. Act Out Loud 2014 has one project goal – for youth leaders to plan and host a safe teen-driving rally in their school and/or community in April or May 2014, in support of Global Youth Traffic Safety Month.  The contest will focus on educating youth and communities on the three primary causes of teen crash fatalities: speeding; lack of seatbelt usage and distractions caused by teen passengers.  Teams can earn up to $1,000 for completion of activities and will receive a free toolkit with great ideas and materials to get started. The first 220 teams to submit their date, location and rally plans will receive the team stipend and toolkit. Teams that submit a video or picture slideshow of their event will be eligible for the grand prize of $10,000 and three runner-up prizes of $2,000 each. Registration is open!  Check out www.ActOutLoud.org for all the details!
