Responsibility.org panel speaks at Blogalicious!

Last week, we hosted a panel at Blogalicious, a blogger conference that focuses on multicultural women in social media, themed “Building Your Empire.” Our panel spoke to the responsibility of bloggers, as online influencers and as parents, to use their reach and influence to promote their passions and social causes.

The panel featured our National Advisory Board member and parenting expert, Deborah Gilboa, MD, journalist and founder of Hispana Global, Jeannette Kaplun, and Blogalicious co-founder, Stacey Ferguson and was moderated by parenting expert and blogger at Tech Savvy Mama, Leticia Barr.

“Rewards don’t only come in paychecks,” said panelist Jeannette Kaplun, as she spoke to why advocating for a cause online brings benefits to not only her brand, but her ability to talk to her kids about being passionate about what they believe in. “Empower your kids to use social media responsibly,” continued Kaplun.

The focus of the panel – relating a cause to your brand – helped attendees realize the importance of using their platforms to promote social causes they believe in and using their online space to make this world a better place. They covered how talking to your online audience and talking to your kids should be fluid, not separate entities, and how your kids see everything that you do – in real life and online. So being tied to a cause helps them understand how to be zealots for what they believe in.

“We model intentionally and unintentionally – what do our kids see us doing when we’re online? Are we using our influence online, our brand, the best way possible?” explained Barr.
