Statement regarding Dr. Mark Rosekind’s nomination as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration

The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility (Responsibility.org) applauds President Obama’s decision to nominate Dr. Mark Rosekind as Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). As a board member of the National Transportation Safety Board, Dr. Rosekind has demonstrated exceptional leadership on traffic safety issues and a passion for building consensus among stakeholders in order to achieve common safety goals.

We believe Dr. Rosekind’s decisive leadership and subject expertise will add great credibility and quality assurance to the NHTSA as it continues to deal with an aging infrastructure, undetermined transportation funding, vehicle recalls and efforts to sustain years of progress in reducing traffic deaths and injuries. We can think of no other individual who is more well-suited to lead our nation in the area of traffic safety. We urge his swift confirmation by the United States Senate.
