Traffic Safety Spotlight: Judge Diane Bull

After 25 years of serving as a criminal court judge in Harris County (Houston), Judge Diane Bull is hanging up the black robe and retiring.  Throughout her career, Judge Bull has been a champion for traffic safety related issues.  Her innovative DWI sobriety court (S.O.B.E.R. Court), which is tailored for repeat impaired driving offenders, has been rehabilitating Houstonians for 10 years. She regularly travels across Texas educating other judges on how they can establish treatment courts in their jurisdictions through the Texas Center for the Judiciary.  Judge Bull’s commitment to ending impaired driving is why she has been selected as a winner of the 2018 Kevin E. Quinlan Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety.

DWI Courts are post-conviction, non-adversarial programs dedicated to changing the behavior of repeat DWI offenders and improving public safety. Judge Bull’s innovative S.O.B.E.R. Court presides over an all-female docket that features: intense supervision, targeted treatment and accountability to change behavior. For years, Judge Bull has led the charge in rehabilitating DWI offenders and keeping Texas roadways safe. We congratulate and thank Judge Bull and look forward to what her next endeavors may be!

Each year, Responsibilty.org highlights leaders who have distinguished themselves in the fight against impaired driving with the Kevin E. Quinlan Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety. Winners range from Members of Congress to local leaders in our communities and each have gone above and beyond their station to make our roads safer.
