Traffic Safety Spotlight: Rhonda Craft

Today we honor Rhonda Craft, Director of the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), for her leadership and commitment to reducing fatalities and injuries on California’s roadways. Overseeing the administration of traffic safety grants for the most populous state in the country, Director Craft has prioritized both alcohol and drug-impaired driving programs. Under her leadership, grants have been awarded to innovative impaired driving programs - including tiered DUI Courts, intensive supervision programs for high-risk drunk drivers, and vertical prosecution for drug-impaired driving. The support of these, and many other effective strategies, has made California roads safer.

Director Craft is a passionate professional who brings more than 30 years of experience in implementing policy and legislation to her position at OTS. Her enthusiasm for supporting life-saving countermeasures inspires others in the field - and she is credited with mentoring young professionals. Hallmarks of her career include helping establish California’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan and serving as a Board member for the Safe Center Incorporated. She has collaborated with many organizations over the years including the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA), the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

For her years of dedicated service and advocacy, we honor Rhonda Craft with our 2018 Kevin E. Quinlan Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety.
