Traffic Safety Spotlight: Tommy Hayes

Ridesharing companies like Lyft provide safe and sober rides for customers. Lyft’s Policy Partnership Manager, Tommy Hayes, is working to expand Lyft’s reach to be more inclusive to rural communities. Tommy committed to bring Lyft to rural Kentucky to ensure safe rides along the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. It was not a decision without risk. If potential customers cannot secure a ride home when they need it, the experience could result in lost customers. Tommy worked closely with Ali Edelstein at the Kentucky Distillers Association to bring this rural rideshare effort to fruition. Now, not only can rural residents earn additional income as Lyft drivers but the visitors of the Bourbon Trail can now schedule a safe ride home. This expansion into rural communities is proof positive that ridesharing in rural communities is not only successful but beneficial, as well. Tommy’s devotion to ending impaired driving coupled with his work to expand safe rides home for everyone make him an ideal recipient of the 2017 Kevin E. Quinlan Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety. Thank you for joining us as we celebrated Tommy Hayes winning this award at our annual Holiday Hill Event!

Each year Responsibilty.org highlights leaders who have distinguished themselves in the fight against impaired driving with the Kevin E. Quinlan Award for Excellence in Traffic Safety. Winners range from Members of Congress to local leaders in our communities and each have gone above and beyond their station to make our roads safer.
