ARLINGTON, Va. – Today, Marc Bromfeld, chairman of Responsibility.org’s board of directors, and Chris Swonger, president and CEO of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States and Responsibility.org, announced that, effective Jan. 1, 2023, the board appointed Leslie Kimball to serve as the new executive director, and announced that Maureen Dalbec will serve as chief operating officer and senior vice president, research and programs; Darrin T. Grondel, Ed.D., will serve as senior vice president of traffic safety; and Kelly Poulsen will serve as senior vice president of government relations.

Responsibility.org has made significant progress and impact towards our missions to end underage drinking, eliminate impaired driving and empower all adults to make responsible alcohol choices as part of a balanced lifestyle.

With Responsibility.org’s strong vision and commitment to its missions and the combined decades of experience, our new leadership team will help drive the organization’s efforts in 2023 and beyond, and will propel Responsibility.org to expand our lifesaving work to make families, communities, and roads safer. On behalf of the organization’s member companies and partners, their expertise and dedication will add another layer to our strong foundation of prevention programming and thought leadership.

During her 21 years with Responsibility.org, Kimball led the development and implementation of programming and communications campaigns for the not-for-profit including the rebranding of Responsibility.org in 2015, the organization’s 20th Anniversary celebration in 2011, and the Ask Listen Learn and Talk Early and parenting influencer initiatives. As executive director, Kimball will lead the organization’s team of 15 professionals. Before her new appointment, Kimball served as chief of communications and branding for DISCUS and Responsibility.org in a shared services capacity, where she oversaw all communications work and built an award-winning, in-house team that helped achieve meaningful growth in reach and revenue for both organizations.

Dalbec has served as Responsibility.org’s chief operating officer and senior vice president of research and data analysis for nearly 3 years. In her role, she will continue to oversee the organization’s operations, research, and program development and implementation to prevent underage drinking and promote responsible consumption. This includes overseeing the organization’s research, measurement and evaluation, and reporting on Responsibility.org’s impact. Additionally, Dalbec will lead the development of the organization’s strategic planning process to define its vision, missions, and goals. Prior to these responsibilities, Dalbec spent 22 years leading the organization’s research and data analysis work as the department’s vice president.

As senior vice president of traffic safety, Grondel will lead Responsibility.org’s lifesaving work to eliminate drunk and impaired driving and will continue to direct the National Alliance to Stop Impaired Driving. Prior to joining Responsibility.org, Grondel served on the executive committee of the Governors Highway Safety Association board of directors, and currently is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Roadway Safety Committee and National Sheriffs Associations Traffic Safety Committee. As a former captain in the Washington State Patrol and the state’s governor-appointed director of the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission, Grondel brings three decades of on-the-ground experience in preventing impaired driving and improving the legal and regulatory environment related to traffic safety.

Poulsen has worked for six years to support the work of Responsibility.org as vice president of federal government relations at DISCUS, including championing the passage of lifesaving impaired driving technology legislation and advocating for a Congressional policy agenda that supports Responsibility.org’s work on traffic safety issues and responsible consumption. As senior vice president of government relations, Poulsen will guide the organization’s federal and state government relations work, drawing on her nearly 20 years’ experience in political advocacy and stakeholder engagement to shape policy and strengthen partnerships critical to making progress on the organization’s missions.
