Following the success of our first holiday campaign last week, and continuing in our efforts to keep roads free of drunk drivers, the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association and Responsibility.org are offering $20 in Uber credits to help Richmonders get home safely.
The Uber vouchers will be valid nightly (4:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.) starting Friday, December 26, until 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 28, for rides that originate or end in the Richmond area.
Did you know:
In 2023 (the latest available data) there were 913 traffic fatalities on Virginia’s roadways, including 261 (or 29%) Virginians who were killed in a drunk driving crash.
In December 2023 alone
61 Virginians were killed in a traffic crash, including 22 who were killed in a crash that involved a drunk driver.
Three out of four Virginians
killed in a drunk driving crash involved a driver with a BAC level of .15 or higher, almost twice the legal limit.
Among those who were killed in a drunk driving crash, 72% were killed in a crash that involved a driver with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level of .15 or higher, which is
nearly twice the legal limit.
Data provided by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration
Drunk driving is a choice, and the injuries and deaths that are the result of drivers who make this choice are 100% preventable. December is Impaired Driving Prevention Month, so keep the season merry and bright by never driving drunk. Make sure that when you head out to your favorite Richmond area bar or restaurant this holiday season, you always plan for a safe ride home.
Participants must be 21+. If you are a government employee, you are responsible for understanding the government gift and ethics rules that are applicable to you, and you may not be eligible for the Uber voucher.
