Alcohol Awareness Month comes to a close

Alcohol Awareness Month is almost over but our work is far from over.  Our April goal was to ignite a million conversations about drunk driving and underage drinking - and we did it (by a lot, in fact!)!  Starting with Twitter, over a thousand people used the #JoinTheConvo hashtag including Congressman Ron Kind (D-WI), Shaquille O’Neal, Godrey the Comedian, South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley, US Gold Medal Gymnast Aly Raisman, Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange, USA.gov, as well as many of our awesome partners. We reached over 3.4 million people on Twitter alone!

Reaching middle school kids, their parents, and teachers with the message that kids must "say YES to a healthy lifestyle and NO to underage drinking," Gold Medal Gymnast Aly Raisman (and current Dancing With the Stars contestant) and her mother, Lynn, appeared in media outlets across the country including USA Today, On Air with Ryan Seacrest, Teen Vogue, Parents and numerous media outlets across the country garnering over 88,000,000 impressions.

Expanding our reach further, we hosted a webinar with Dr. Anthony Wolf who advised parents of teens about how to have an effective conversation about underage drinking.  Read what Dr. Wolf had to say via the following blogs, Teach Mama, The Centsible Life, and Scraps of my Geek Life. Then Ask Listen Learn hosted our first "Twitter party" using the hashtag #TalkEarly.  We not only reached over 200 participants, our hashtag was a Top Trend on Twitter, total impressions for the party were over 6 million!  We were so proud and encouraged that so many parents care so deeply about having ongoing conversations about alcohol.

Reaching a different audience, Shaquille O'Neal and Comedian Godfrey teamed up to remind students at HBCUs to #WatchYourself with regard to college binge drinking.  Their videos have garnered nearly 48,000  views (and counting!).  We also re-launched B4Udrink, which offers the most accurate Blood Alcohol Calculator publicly available.

Rounding out the month was our 6th Annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day event on Capitol Hill.  Aly Raisman was joined by NBC4 Sports Anchor Dan Hellie, National Women’s Soccer Team Defender Ali Kreiger, and 94.7 Fresh FM Morning Host Tommy McFLY.  We packed the room with over 300 attendees including numerous parents and kids as well as young guests from DC Scores and Girl Scouts; our event highlights the importance of setting goals, having great role models, and making smart choices - all while having fun!  Watch our video  and check out our photos from the event.

We garnered over 4 million impressions via Facebook, reaching 1.8 million users with over 3,200 likes, clicks, comments and shares. Some of our biggest posts includes our Alcohol Awareness Month announcement, our State Attorneys General PSA, and our post promoting our Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day event.

The highlights above are just a sampling of the amazing impact we made over the month.  Give us a day to catch our breath and we will have comprehensive summary to share!  In the meantime, you still have a day left in April, please visit our Alcohol Awareness page to learn more on how you can continue the conversation today and throughout the year.  What’s up next, you ask?  Tomorrow we kick off Global Youth Traffic Safety Month with a special announcement.  Keep in touch via this blog, Twitter, Facebook and don't forget to follow us on Pinterest!
