Stop Impaired Driving
Drunk driving deaths have declined dramatically over the past three decades – down nearly 51 percent from 21,113 in 1982 to 10,265 in 2015. The Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility’s mission is to lead the fight against drunk driving and we offer proven strategies to stop impaired driving. We hope and believe our work has contributed, along with the work of many others, to the number of lives saved.
More Progress Needed
There is so much work left to do. Drunk driving deaths are one-third of all traffic deaths on our roads. While we should celebrate the lives saved, we must implement more efficient and comprehensive solutions to achieve our goals. As a nation, we must do better.
What We Know
Solutions to stop impaired driving work best in combination, and a comprehensive approach is critical to success:
What We’re Doing About It
Offering proven strategies to stop impaired driving. Responsibility.org works alongside national traffic safety experts, law enforcement, prosecutorial, judicial, and community corrections (probation/parole) partners to develop and implement programs, strategies, and policies that work.
Identifying new solutions. We support research initiatives to identify new and emerging facets of the impaired driving problem and counter-measures that will ultimately keep drunk drivers off of the road.
Increasing knowledge where it counts the most. Our commitment to developing resources for practitioners in an effort to improve the processing of impaired drivers through the criminal justice system began in 1997 and we have since established ourselves as leaders in this field. We will continue to develop user-friendly resources for criminal justice practitioners in the years ahead.
